Overview

Wenner Media, publisher of Rolling Stone, seeks a temporary, part-time Counsel (approximately 25 hours per week, 3-6 months) to provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of compliance, legal and risk issues for the Company as well as its affiliates.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the General Counsel, responsibilities will include drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts and agreements for media publications and digital properties (representative contracts are technology agreements, syndication agreements, licensing agreements and agreements related to advertising programs such as talent, venue, music, sweeps/contests, etc.); advising on copyright and fair use, privacy, right of publicity and other intellectual property matters; reviewing video, podcast and other materials to determine clearance and related issues; negotiating licenses and releases for uses of copyrighted or trademarked materials such as film clips, artwork, photos, music, and ensuring each license properly addresses essential terms; conducting research to evaluate the status of copyrighted and trademarked materials and products, invasion of privacy, defamation and rights of publicity, and other legal issues; advising on various regulatory matters relating to advertising and marketing practices; and providing support to senior management on various legal issues.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 or more years of experience in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel (experience in the media and/or advertising industry strongly preferred)
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and manage multiple deadline driven projects
  • Exudes demonstrated leadership and initiative
  • Excellent oral, analytical and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, extremely organized, resourceful and efficient 
  • Must handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner
